Relieve your ‘Lunch Box’ Stress

I cant wait to wake up extra early and make my kids lunch boxes…..

said NO mom EVER!!

When I’m making my children’s lunch boxes, I often think of those poor moms that have 4 or 5 lunch boxes to fill! This is one time that I’m very grateful we stopped after number 2!

I know that children’s lunch boxes are a constant stress for moms and if you anything like me, you dread your kids going back to school just because it means DAILY lunch boxes (and having to start up mom’s Taxi Service again!)

So this year I decided that I was going to be a bit more organized and put together a lunch box planner to relieve my daily stress once and for all!! I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and it really has helped (I’ve had no moans from the kids either which is a huge plus)

For those of you that need a bit of help and would like a copy here it is.

Just print , laminate and stick on your fridge 🙂

I recently bought my kids Sistema lunch boxes which are such a win (see pic). They are available from Waltons, Game, Clicks, Dischem and Pick n Pay. They have lots of little compartments for all the different food groups. Previously I used to pack a thousand different containers into a cooler bag or wrap the food in cling wrap (which I hated doing because I kept feeling so guilty about all the sea creatures I was killing).

This planner will give you some ideas of what you can put in each compartment. Each week just choose different foods (off the lists) to fill each section. Or you can get your kids to choose what they want off the list.

Planning ahead is key. Every Sunday I do a ‘lunch box’ food shop to make sure I’ve got everything I need for the week. There’s nothing worse than having to try and fill a lunch box when the only thing you can find in your grocery cupboard is a tin of tuna and in your fruit bowl a couple of old shriveled apples! Let’s be honest, we’ve all had those mornings where you just haven’t gotten around to doing a grocery shop so you do the best you can with what you’ve got and then your ‘Tween’ looks inside ‘it’s’ lunch box and says ‘Really?’

‘Yes. Really. Just be grateful that you’ve got SOMETHING inside that box!’ Is my response.

And lastly…if you really want your kids to jump on the ‘healthy eating’ bandwagon and get super excited about their new healthy lunch boxes, check out my Kids Nutritional Story Books. They each have an important message for kids about healthy eating and really do encourage children to make better food choices. You can either purchase the books from my website www.karenbishop.co.za (and do an EFT) or you can download them onto any apple device. Just search for ‘Kids Nutritional Stories’ in iTunes.

If you’ve found this post useful, please share it with all your mom friends because sharing is caring 🙂
